We Still Need Help

The total estimated construction costs for the Gao, Mali pre-school is $60,200 CAD.

To-date we have raised $15,200 from our members and constituents, with which we have purchased the school land, finalized constructed plans, secured permits, and began purchasing construction materials.

We still need your help to finish construction and welcome students for the October 2022 new school year!

About the Gao, MALI Project

In 2011 the Republic of Mali faced insecurity because of Islamic terrorism, especially in the northern part of the country (Mopti, Timbouctu, Gao and Kidal). The situation, which escalated in 2012, caused a large number of the population to flee toward the neighboring regions (Niger, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Libya, Algeria, and southern parts of Mali that had welcomed them).

After several national and international negotiations with the armed groups, signatures of pacts between the different parts and the aide of the United Nations initiative in Mali (MINUSMA), calm came back to the country. The displaced populations started to return to the country with their children. However, most of the schools had been closed. Almost fifty schools still remained closed in the regions of Mopti, Timbouctu, Gao, Kidal and Segou for unsafety during the school year up to 2016-2017.

One of the greatest struggles for the Malian government after the crisis was the improvement and stability of the education system. The government undertook a strong campaign of reinsertion. The schools reopened shyly and slowly. This has motivated me to improve the primary education quality of the children of the desert and initiate the creation of a kindergarten nursery school in Gao. As a career educator, my intellectual capacities and professional experiences will help to accomplish this task. It’s surly a modest contribution to regain peace and development. This type of education is one of the strongest bases existing in the fundamental children’s rights.

The kindergarten/nursery school will, in effect, allow the women/mothers in the region to participate in income generating activities. It will provide fulfillment, development and sense of independency – creating long lasting contributions to society.

The kindergarten will be located in the capital city of Gao, “Tombeau des Askia”, the seventh region of Mali. It will be implanted in the neighborhood called“Chateau Secteur II”, Chateau is a modern site that now holds the city’s administration building since the former had been destroyed downtown by terrorists. It will be welcomed and very helpful with the emergency situation in the north of the country.

We are committed and invested in building this nursery and future schools in other regions with hard work, determination, passion, and most of all pure heart. With the help of like-minded positive impact individuals, we will bring education to the disenfranchised children of the sub-saharan region.
